Bangladesh army demolishes houses to grab indigenous land in Bilaichari

On 24 January 2026, Bangladesh army demolished two indigenous houses at Gashbagan Para of Bilaichari, Rangamati district. The victims are:

Sukhamoy Chakma, son of Dayal Chakma

Dhaneshwar Chakma

The houses were demolished with a bulldozer under the Command of Major Atik and Subedar Mosharaf of the Bangladesh Army. At the same time, Bangladesh army initiated a plan to establish a tourist center at Gashbagan Para area, similar to Sajek. For this purpose, Bangladesh army is making various efforts to evict the indigenous people.

Despite objections from the indigenous people of Thum Para, Dulubagan, and Gashbagan, Bangladesh army continued to occupy the indigenous people’s lands and community forests to establish tourist center on the occupied land.
