Bangladesh army and settlers kill 3 and injure 19 indigenous people at Guimara

On 28 September 2025, Bangladesh army and the Muslim settlers kill 3 and injured at least 19 indigenous people at Guimara Ramesu Bazar, Khagrachari district. In addition, 54 shops, 26 houses and 16 motorcycles of the indigenous people were burnt to ashes at Ramesu Bazar.

On 23 September 2025, 3 Bengali/Muslim settlers raped an indigenous Marma girl (12) at Singinala, Khagrachari district.

On September 28, 2025, the indigenous youths under the banner of 'Jumma Chatra Janata' observed dawn to dusk road blockade Khagrachari district to protest the rape of the indigenous girl. They demanded the arrest of all rapists.

The Muslim settlers carried out a fierce attack from morning to around 4 pm, on the indigenous people who were blocking the road and, on their houses, and settlements at Guimara. In addition, the army baton-charged at four places in the Khagrachari town area. That morning, a group of indigenous people were blocking the road in front of the food warehouse adjacent to the Ramesu Bazar at Guimara.

At one point, a group of Bangladesh army personnel and Muslim settlers arrived there. At first, the army took the initiative to push the indigenous students off the road. This led to a verbal altercation between the Bangladesh army members and the indigenous people who were blocking the road.

The army then forcibly dispersed the indigenous people. At around 12 noon. A chase and counter-chase began between the Bangladesh army and Muslim settlers on one side and the indigenous people on the other. In the meantime, the Muslim settlers started setting fire to shops, houses and motorcycles in Ramesu Bazar and the surrounding indigenous areas. This led to a chase and counter-chase between both sides.

Meanwhile, at one stage of the chase and counter-chase, around 1 pm, Bangladesh army opened fire on the indigenous people. 3 indigenous people were killed on the spot. 

The attack by the Bangladesh army and Muslim settlers lasted until 4 pm. At least 5 indigenous people are still missing. The names of three of them are-Thoyching Marma, Chingpru Marma and Athuipru Marma. At least 19 indigenous men and women were seriously injured. At least 11 of them were admitted to Khagrachari Sadar Hospital and 1 was transferred to the Chittagong Medical College Hospital in critical condition. In addition, 54 shops, 26 houses and 16 motorcycles belonging to the indigenous people were burnt to ashes at Ramesu Bazar.
